I have been in the lending industry since 1999. It was my first job coming out of college.
In 2013 my mother came up to me and asked me what I thought about her getting a Reverse Mortgage and retiring. My two sisters and I were very quick to support this idea. My mother got her Reverse Mortgage and literally retired the next day.
I sat back in my chair admiring the positive life change my mother just did. When I got home that night; my wife and I were having a conversation about the huge life change that my mother just did; and all the positives that were associated with it.
“That Reverse Mortgage is something that I can get behind. I truly believe that this is something that I believe in. I know that I can change people’s lives for the better.” I commented to my wife.
The following Monday, I started the process of opening my own office just dedicating my life to doing Reverse Mortgages.
Within 3 months, I had opened my own office and funded my first Reverse Mortgage in my new office. It was a wonderful lady who lived by herself in Folsom. As I was leaving her house, after the final set of loan documents had been signed, I received one of the sincerest hugs that I have ever received. It was wonderful. Something that I never received in the prior 11 years of my lending experience. She said that she never thought that there would be a point in her life where she wouldn’t have to worry about the roof over head. Then she proceeded to tell me how much stress just left her life. I will never forget her.
Since then I have received a bunch of those hugs. Witnessed the tear of relief, and have read the letters of resignation from jobs that seniors were thinking they would have to work for the rest of their lives. Truly rewarding experiences.
